With the ‘Beast from the East’ rendering the usual course unsafe, Colours 2018 took place in the more sheltered (and snow covered) Islandbridge.
The winding course and a stronger flow made for unpredictable racing. In the Dan Quinn Shield the UCD Novices had an incredible race going down by a length, regaining a length lead, falling behind again before a final push saw them win by 2 feet. This is the first win for UCD in this event since 2013 and showed some serious mettle among the crew in what was their first ever race.
The Gannon Cup saw UCD take an early lead of up to a length but as the course wore on Trinity made up the gap and took their own advantage, winning by a length.
The women’s race saw similar results with UCD taking the Sally Moorhead Trophy and Trinity the Corcoran Cup, although the margins were bigger.
