Facilities
UCD Boat Club is based in three different locations: Belfield, Dublin 4; Islandbridge, Dublin 8 and Blessington, Co. Wicklow.
Belfield
Land training takes place in theĀ Sports Centre and High Performance Gym in the UCD Belfield Campus. The club has its own free weights and Concept II ergometers and has access to the gym facilities on offer to sports clubs within the university.
Islandbridge
UCD Boat Club has its own facilities on the River Liffey in Islandbridge, Dublin 8. TheĀ boathouse is situated on the North side of the river along the Chapelizod Road beside Commercial, Neptune and Garda Boat Clubs. The club shares this boathouse with UCD Ladies Boat Club and Old Collegians Boat Club. This is the training base for all crews at the start of the season and Novice crews for the entire season. The boathouse lies on a 1.8 km stretch of river which is easily accessible from the city. It is also the departure point for crews competing on the lower Liffey through the centre of Dublin City.
Directions to Islandbridge
By Bike: Most members cycle to the boathouse from UCD by cycling towards town until you come to the Canal Road. Turn left and stay on the Canal Road until you cross the Luas track, head straight through Kilmainham & across the N4. Once you go over Islandbridge Bridge, turn left and it’s the first boathouse you come to. Roughly a 30 minute journey from UCD.
By Bus: Alternatively, you can hop on the 26 Dublin Bus from Westmoreland Street (city-centre). Alight at the UCD Boat Club stop and continue walking to the boathouse.
Blessington
UCD Boat Club is a member of the Dublin Metropolitan group of clubs which operates a boathouse on the reservoir in Blessington, Co. Wicklow. The boathouse allows access to the vast expanse of the Blessington lakes for training and competition. Intermediate and Senior crews train from this base all year round. The boat house is approximately 40 minutes by car from UCD.
