UCD Boat Club achieved a significant milestone in 2017, marking a centenary of national and international titles, of World and Olympic Irish representation, and of countless lasting bonds and friendships forged on the water.

This milestone presents all members, past and present, with an opportunity to come together, celebrate the club’s illustrious history and lay the foundation for another century of success.

What is needed?

Staff

University rowing, both in Ireland and abroad, is becoming increasingly professional in its approach. UCD Boat Club has been extremely fortunate to have dedicated volunteer coaches and committees throughout its history but now to grow, compete and succeed consistently at the highest level the club requires a full-time professional structure that provides the strong and stable platform from which athletes and volunteers can excel.

Equipment

In 2017 the club began the process of regenerating a fleet that ranged from 10 to 20+ years with the purchase of a new 8+ but considerable and continued investment is needed to support the dedication of our athletes and their ability to compete at the top level.

Support

The club currently relies on a small number of volunteers generously giving a substantial amount of time and energy to coaching and administrative tasks. We also have a large group of alumni who may not be in a position to support the club financially but can instead lend their skills, sporting or otherwise. We believe that with the right structure more individuals can get involved and widen our support network.

How can I help?

Donate

The most straightforward way to support these ambitions is to sign up for a regular donation to the UCD Boat Club Graduate Fund at UCD Foundation. Established in 2001, the Graduate Fund aims to ensure that the club always has the means necessary to compete at the top level.

Donations made in this way are deemed charitable and are therefore tax-efficient – if you are a PAYE or self-assessed tax payer and donate at least €250 per annum (€21 a month) the Foundation can claim tax relief on your amount, i.e. your donation could be worth an extra 44.93% to the club.

By donating regularly you are contributing to a solid foundation that ensures the future sustainability of the club.

Get Involved

The club has an ongoing need for volunteers. This can take the form of coaching or committee roles, with varying levels of time commitment, or more specific support in areas such as:

  • Employment (flexible jobs are a huge help to athletes, particularly in Summer)
  • Fundraising (organising an event or making contact with potential sponsors)
  • Race Day (providing food or driving a trailer, bus or car)

This is a fantastic way to stay connected with and support the club without the time commitment associated with a day-to-day role.

👨🏻 Movember UpdateFor over a century, UCD Boat Club has been more than just a rowing club, it’s been a place where men support one another through victories, losses, and everything in between. Generations of athletes have found strength, friendship, and resilience here, the very values that Movember stands for. This month, we’re continuing that legacy by raising funds and awareness for men’s health. Our goal is €3,000, and we’ve already had our first donations come in. A massive thank you to everyone who’s contributed so far!Our first Movember progress post will be going up soon, so keep an eye out for updates (and a few questionable moustaches) as we keep fundraising throughout the month.💰 Link in bio to donate.#Movember #UCD #UCDBC #UCDSport #MensHealth #Rowing #CollegeAthlete #RowingLife #Charity #AdAstra #HonCollege

👨🏻 In aid of Movember this year UCD Boat Club is running a campaign to raise money to help “change the face of men’s health”. Members are growing out Moustaches all month long for the cause and will be posting progress reports weekly. Sea swims, Ergathons and forfeits are all to follow when we hit our targets. The goal this year is to raise €3,000 for this great cause. We encourage anyone who sees this post to share it with friends and family to help us reach our targets. In our bio, we have links to donate to the Movember fund with 100% of proceeds going to this cause and an additional link to donate directly to the men’s Boat club to fundraise for our annual Seville trip to bring down the costs for athletes. #Movember #UCD #UCDSPORT #ROWING #UCDBC #CHARITY #collegeathlete #rowinglife
