UCD Takes the Wylie Cup

For the first time in 17 years, the Wylie Cup has been won by the club. The Wylie Cup is awarded on a ‘best of three’ basis out of the Novice, Intermediate & Senior VIII races of the University Championships.

In a fantastic performance, UCD Novices won their race by 6 lengths beating Queen’s & Garda College. The Intermediates then put in a strong performance, securing the Wylie for the college after beating Queen’s in the final. Unfortunately, a clean sweep was not possible with Trinity winning the Senior race after taking and holding an early lead. Two out of the three races was enough however to achieve the second of the club’s big three targets of the season.

UCD Ladies also had an excellent performance at the University Championships; retaining the Bank of Ireland Cup, which is awarded on a ‘best of three’ basis out of the Women’s Novice, Inter & Senior IV races. UCD Ladies were able to secure the Intermediate & Senior races after the Novices narrowly missed out to Trinity.
