Gearing up for Gannon

So preparations are nearing fever pitch in the UCD. With a successful outing at the Erne Head of the River under our belts the hard yards have been put in through the winter preseason. UCDBC has seen a bit of growth in the last year, with an increase in the Senior and Intermediate squads and the successful recruitment of new novices.  This year saw a change to the coaching team too, with the services of Brendan Duane and Willy Ryan added. These have brought a structured approach to the club and it’s activities across all skill levels. After a successful winter training camp in Seville, the work has continued on the water in both Blessington and Islandbridge and in the gym in Belfield. The mood in all crews is high with a belief that this can be a good season for UCDBC.

While UCD Boat Club have won the last few Gannon Cup encounters,  our competition are well organised and greatly improved this year and pose a significant challenge for UCD. The tight results in the novice section at the Erne Head were also a taster of may be to come in the Dan Quinn Shield. We’re looking forward to a good encounter with the arch rivals on the 16th of March. We would encourage everyone to come down to the river in their blue and saffron to support ‘collidge’ in this year’s races.

Hope to see you there,

Eamonn Lannoye

After a number of years of falling short, our reserve boat has brought the Naggon Cup back to UCD. This win is a reflection of the growth in our squad depth, and a foundation to build on as we set our sights on the upcoming races over the next few weeks.#honcollege #AdAstra #coloursboatraces

On its 21st edition, UCDBC have reclaimed the Dan Quinn Shield, ending a six-year drought since our last victory in 2018. Through an outstanding performance from our novice squad, the Shield has returned back to Belfield! 🏆🔵Novice rowing is key to what we do at UCDBC. A club of our ambition is only as strong as the next generation it builds, and we take enormous pride in welcoming, developing, and inspiring new rowers each and every year. Today’s result is a testament to the dedication of this year’s novice squad and the coaches who have worked tirelessly to bring out the best in them. This achievement would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors and partners:Dublin City Council Gannon + Associates Landscape ArchitectureValentia PartnersTechretePaul RomerilSL RacingMurray Consultants📸 Photos courtesy of @tjobrienpifer frankiedolphin @vaarjak @sportsfile #HonCollege #AdAstra #ColoursBoatRaces
