Wylie Cup

The Wylie Cup is the oldest and most prestigious prize for University rowing in Ireland. Originally presented by IARU President Mr. Justice Wylie in 1922 to encourage intervarsity rowing it has been competed for since under various rules.

From 1922-1927 it was raced in the Senior 4+ before moving to the Senior 8+ in 1928.

From 1937 onwards it was expanded to include the Junior 8+ (equivalent to present day Intermediate) and Maiden 8+ (Novice) with the winners being the club with most wins across those events (or the winners of the Senior 8+ in case of a tie).

From 1974-80 it was modified to use a points system that took account of all results at the University Championships before reverting to the eights.

2014 saw the addition of the Club grade in Irish Rowing and this is now also included in deciding the winners of the Wylie Cup.
