The Cup stays with U.C.D.
U.C.D., the holders, retained the Gannon Cup by defeating Dublin University by 1 1/4 lengths in their annual rowing test over the 1 3/4 mile course on the Liffey from Guinness’s Wharf to below the O’Connell Bridge, yesterday.
It was an exciting race from the start, with U.C.D. taking a slight lead.
At Capel Street Bridge, Dublin University made a spurt and reduced the leeway.
U.C.D. had something in reserve, however, and made full use of it coming near the finish.
Forty yards from home, they showed their paces and flashed over the line deserved winners.
