Paul O’Donovan set a new Irish Lightweight record while Shane O’Connell also impressed to win the U23 Lightweight category.
UCD Boat Club members clocked up hundreds of kilometres on the water in Seville during the club’s annual training camp.

While our returning athletes are well into their training routine, Freshers Week brought the UCD Sports Expo and the first major event of the season. The club signed up a large and enthusiastic group of new members and was awarded by UCD Sport and Bank of Ireland for their contribution to the Expo.
UCD hosted a homecoming event for Ireland’s Rio 2016 Olympic rowers in the Fitzgerald Debating Chamber on Friday 2nd September, in association with Old Collegians Boat Club and Rowing Ireland.
UCD Ad Astra student Paul O’Donovan topped off an outstanding season by winning the LM1x at the 2016 World Championships in Rotterdam, while UCD’s David O’Malley and Shane Mulvaney finished 4th in the U23 LM2- and Shane O’Connell 5th in the U23 LM4x.
UCD Ad Astra student Paul O’Donovan and his brother Gary took Silver in the LM2x at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Claire Lambe and Sinead Jennings came 6th in their LW2x final, the first Irish oarswomen to make an A final at the Olympics.
UCD took 2016 National Championships for Mens Club 8+, Womens Senior 4- and Womens Intermediate 8+ but were pipped to the line in Mens Senior 8+ and Mens Intermediate 4+, while also finishing 2nd in Mens Senior 1x, Mens Senior 2-, Mens Intermediate 8+.
