UCD top the lightweight categories at IIRC 2017

Paul O’Donovan set a new Irish Lightweight record while Shane O’Connell also impressed to win the U23 Lightweight category.

Paul beat his 2016 IIRC score, recorded in the U23 Lightweight category, by 0.1 seconds to set a new Irish Lightweight record of 6:07.4.

UCD’s other Lightweight entries were in the U23 category where Shane O’Connell topped the list in a PB 6:21.3. 4th and 5th place also went to UCD with Shane Mulvaney and Andrew Goff recording 6:25.4 and 6:28.1 respectively. David O’Malley missed out due to injury, while UCD’s Alan Kennedy placed 5th in the Mens 40-49 category with 6:40.0.

The other College interest was UCD man Eoghan O’Connor, competing on the day for Castleconnell. His score of 6:02.7, although not a PB, secured 2nd place in the Mens Open category. Congratulations are due to first placed Sam McKeown of Queens who recorded a very impressive 5:55.0.

UCD Ladies Boat Club’s Eimear Lambe placed 2nd with 7:10.9 in the U23 event, Jane Coleman 2nd with 7:42.7 in the Lightweight U23 event while Old Collegians’ Sanita Puspure won the Open event in 6:40.0.
