UCD in action at National Squad Trials

Seven members of the Senior 8+ were in action at the 2nd of this year’s National Squad Trials in Iniscarra this weekend. The trial consisted of a timetrial on Friday and 2km multi-lane racing on Saturday. Some good performances were put in by the lads with Tom Doyle and Dave Neale winning Friday’s timetrial in their 2- and Finbar Manning and Richard Skelly winning the 2km racing on Saturday in theirs, Anthony English also showed marked improvement in the U23 Lightweight category. Despite these results, only Anthony English was called back for Sunday’s crew formation training as their % Gold Medal times at Heavyweight were unfortunately deemed too low to warrant further callbacks.
Despite 7 of the Gannon crew being involved with the trials, preparation for the upcoming Gannon Cup continued each evening after the trials, with short technical and work sessions. A quality performance will be needed to defeat Trinity and retain the Gannon Cup.
